my girlfriend and I are cosplaying Alette and Eyvind from Banner Saga for DragonCon this year. I'm about to start on the staff for my costume, but I'm not very experienced with prop-making. My only past experience was a couple of resin accessories. I'm not really concerned about time or money, but I don't know where to start.

I'm looking for something that can be done realistically in a few weeks with materials that can be bought from local craft and home supply stores. The only real limitation I have is that I can't do a lot in the way of power tools due to lack of space. Any tips on materials, online tutorials, or just general starting knowledge would be appreciated.
