Seeing as steampunk really doesn't have decent, unified material to draw from, at least none that the typical sort of weeb will cosplay from, most people seem to just go ape shit with steampunk and try to pass off random corsets and vests and silly old hats as some sort of.. thing. It's just a fun, quirky, silly costume that makes them feel special and eccentric without having to actually have a shred of originality.

Lord Reagent Facesallovermybody there is pretty much guilty of exactly that. It's technically impressive in its intricacy, but what the fuck is it? Why is he covered in faces, but not in a sort of horror way. That sort of shit belongs to monstrous and unsettling design. Why does he have a fucking flame thrower arm? Why is his overall design a cacophonous clash of countless different aesthetics that have no grounding or relation outside of lots of gold spray paint?

As a steampunk costume, it's even more divorced from the idea of victorian-themed anachronic futurism than the usual 'glue some gears on it' steampunk shit you see everywhere. As anything else.. It's still a fucking mess.
