It might be me, but I feel like the gothic brands are generally of higher quality than sweet brands. Chantilly has some of the best construction and most beautiful screen-printing I have ever seen, and it's pretty hard to beat the lush fabrics of Atelier Pierrot. Moitie has the prettiest custom lace, imo, and while I don't know about other brands, I know for a fact that all of Moitie's dresses are still made in Japan, whereas I'm pretty sure AP & BTSSB outsource to China.

So that's my theory on why even simple Moitie dresses are more expensive than an OTT sweet dress from AP. Simpler prints + designs, but higher quality materials & better construction.
