Since it's a real actor you're portraying you can get away with real hair, if you have his haircut. You might have to touch up in the bathroom occasionally but it should be doable.
For the clips, since it looks like part of the pants rather than the belt (it's been ages since I saw the movie, correct me if I'm wrong) you could fib it by making non-functional clip looking parts on your pants and attaching something similar to old-time cellphone/pager clips to your weapons so you can hang them directly from your belt.

I'm not a leatherworker at all, but an anon in an older Nier thread did some heatstamping into pleather with a linoleum block, pic related. You could probably try that method like you said.

Tried a method of heatstamping my pleather with a CNC-cut printing block and it came out beautiful
