Been around since 1997 and I agree. I look back at my con photos from that time and there was a lot of meh.
We are better at making wigs look decent (because there is more selection) and we share tutorials on so many things so you aren't flying blind anymore.

But yeah, cosplay is full of MEH. We just usually don't realize it cause people don't really take photos of mediocrity.

Quality of out and out loving a show so much you MUST make something from it has gone down. But that's what happens anytime something gets popular and it point of entry is made easier.
