Cosplaying is about looking alike a character. If you don't have any resemblance to the character you're cosplaying you shouldn't do it, otherwise it will look like a bad cosplay. If you use a non official costume, then it should be a tribute, not a cosplay. Nobody is saying that you should have the exactly same body especifications as the character, but you should at least look alike him, or at least do the makeup to make you look alike him.
