"I was stunned and honored when Pas and I won the Best in Show award against a wide field of extraordinarily talented cosplayers. We spent that first night astonished, flattered, and excited that the $1800 cash prize would help pay for the 1800-mile round trip from Colorado.

Except the next day after several conversations with staff we learned that there wasn’t a cash prize… we needed to fill out some forms by email and then we’d get some other form of payment. In the next few weeks most or all the other teams got their smaller prizes. Pas and I did not. We sometimes went weeks and later months between responses from the cosplay head, were promised several times that the payment would be out within the week, but it never was."
