I don't want to be that one sperg in the group people just tolerate (and talk shit about when they're not around), but it's preventing me from actually getting close to people.

My best guy friend doesn't want to go to cons with me anymore because he's literally scared of lolitas.

Read that again. I'm serious. He's got some serious social anxiety, but he's fine with any social interaction he can easily classify (autism joke here) such as creepy hambeasts, The Overly Aggressive Girl Wearing Animatronic Cat Ears (TOAGWACE, "toag-wase," he came up with that one,) etc. The decent lolitas stymie him; they're socially competent and wearing expensive dresses. And since he's a decent-looking guy at an anime con, they tend to go for him, and since lolitas always travel in pairs or pods, well... you get the drift. He's so cripplingly shy that he kind of shuts down, waits for me to say something, and just kind of slips away.

He still likes anime cons, but a few months ago, out of the blue, he tells me he doesn't want to go to AWA. He'll drive me there (we usually carpool with two other friends) and hit up the dealers room, but he doesn't want to run around the con with me, which is usually the best part. My friends are joking that he got bit by a lolita as a kid and picked up a ribbon last week or something and it gave him flashbacks. It'd be funny if social anxiety like this was funny, but it's really not.

Kinda bummed. Panels are boring, cons suck without your friends.
