it's a standard bowie knife no earlier than from the 19th century but most probably way into the 20th.
The "blade catching" thing is an urban legend, says if you block into the other knife hard with it then the blade will stuck into the brass.
Which might happened once or twice with the real thing but sadly anon the brass on your knife is a cheap edition and won't catch shit.
