Have you seen what western plus size clothing looks like?
It's garbage and as a fat girl, I don't want to wear loud colors. What I like about lolita are the details, the soft colors, and the cute things that aren't available to me as a woman in the US who is expected to look like some sexy pin up model cause I'm wide. I hate that look.
