No one, I tell you , NO ONE, is going to claim to be trans sorely for the attention.
There is usually more to it and while you may think they are just "following the fad" they are most likely not very sure in their identity.

People who claim to be trans but do not usually present themselves as their claimed gender are most likely trying to find an identity that works for them. I have friends who thought they were trans solely because they didn't fit in the gender role they were given. Of course they didn't realize that until later, but at the time it was important to them. And I can respect that.
Because if we don't let people try out different gender roles like that we will have the people who come out at age 40 and gets dismissed as fake because of that. And we will also have the people who are afraid of "backing out" if they feel they are on the wrong track. And if they then regret that later we get the problem with people dismissing transsexualism as something that isn't actually a problem.

Live and let live, let the kids experiment and get comfortable with who they are. If they aren't actually trans they're not going to hold on to it.
If it had been so important to call out "fake" trans kids when I was doubting my identity, I don't think I'd be standing here today.
