Not OP, but I’ll take a crack at it.
While hobbyist-level printers can’t do some of the crazy shit I’ve seen industrial ones do, they’re rather useful for making small parts that are oddly shaped. You might not be able to print an entire cosplay wholesale, but you can use a 3D printer to make smaller parts that would be more effort/time consuming to do another way, especially if you need multiple of that thing.
The first example I can think of is pic related. Dio has a lot of these heart things strapped to his outfit. 3D Printing those would probably be a lot easier than making those by hand, and much more consistent as well.
