Uhh, the qipao was originally cultural Manchurian clothing before they invaded China and spread their culture to the Chinese. The qipao was then westernised during the 1900s to fit the western silhouette better.

Before the qipao, they wore hanfu. But for a good 500 years, they were wearing qipao before the westerners came because of manchurian influence.

I only ever see the hanfu in a soap opera or revival-esque context. I'm glad it's making a comeback though.
