I think it'd be very cute as a country outfit - short-sleeve black peter pan collar blouse, berry accessories, straw hat, straw bag, ankle socks and short boots. The gingham doesn't really lend itself as well to more elegant rockabilly/retro styling, but you could always try that as well (back seam tights, shrug, pumps, victory roll...)

This may still be a bit plain for you but I had a vague idea for black and grey as these tights (Calzedonia, only available in store, you'll need a Eurofag/UK person to get them for you) basically have all the paris landmark architecture on them and are therefore awesome. I could also see this dress in a very pearls-and-fur sort of outfit.

The easiest thing to do in my opinion is white blouse/tights, tan shoes, tan bag, and themed accessories.
