Oh sweet, something I can help with. I use a black spandex mask with the white detail sewn on. Use a mannequin head as reference, measure/mark where everything will go. You can see pretty well out of spandex, so don't worry about running into things.
A lot of Spidey cosplayers I know use a face shell, and you can totally go that route if you want (I'm going to do that sometime in the future once I start my new mask). There are tutorials all over google for that.
