I'm going to assume the inside is lined with fabric - unless you lucked out and the metal prongs or screws are exposed on the underside of the handles, to which you can unbend/unscrew to take off the handles. These parts might look like the *blue square* in pic related. If it is lined inside, you might have to remove the lining to get to the handle parts.

Do you already have handles to replace them? If they are some other wooden handles that can replace the bamboo ones with the right holes for the peg, you could try fiddling with the spring-peg *orange square* that is holding the bamboo handle there.
