Narrowing it down to one cause is too hard, if possible at all. Since I'm at so many now (current average is 1.5 a month starting last year), it means there's a chance every other week to improve on whatever worked at the one before that and remembering how to avoid anything that didn't. Plus, I'm now recognized pretty often, even by people who I had no idea were attending. Some local, some travelers like me. It's gotta be something in the body language too, probably way of walking.

Being in a place where people are naturally friendlier like seen here >>10799285 always helps too. You might get randos on the street of one city who wanna talk about your costume, even when they have no idea what it is. Then in another, someone dressed as a character from the same series won't even care to ask for a picture.
