Exactly. One of the things that I appreciate about SnK is that for the most part, the gender of a character is really incidental. Women and men are pretty much equals. Like I said, there's an intelligent way to do all this, but that's been ignored in favor of shitty, nonsensical headcanons and vitriol.

Also, what I think angry Anon was trying to say was that despite the fact that Reiner saw a slight boost in popularity after he made that comment about his sexuality--and it was learned that his birthday apparently falls on Yaoi day or something--he still was never really paired with anyone often. That is, until certain events came to life. Then suddenly he and his sweaty co-sonspiritor was everywhere. My dash started to look very different after certain chapters. Tumblr, I've noticed, likes to take characters who are antagonists that may or may not have committed atrocities and paint them as sympathetic and misunderstood. Loki is a prime example. I see the other titan shifters as fairly sympathetic, but these guys are taking the moral grey areas and the ambiguity that I like in the manga and handling them with a sledgehammer.

There's a black artist who draws Sailor Moon characters as black, but her designs are well thought out and more of a "What if Sailor Moon was black? What would she and her friends look like?" Sort of experiment rather than "I head cannon Sailor Moon as a black, body positive non-binary that presents as femme. How dare you depict her as anything else you cishetshit!"

That's what the SnK fandom is like.
