This may be a response to one of my comments. Don't get me wrong, I'm aware that some brands release older style dresses now and then! It's just that they are often the same two or three dresses (and usually it's BABY), and sometimes they are made with different materials that take away from the oldschool feeling. What I'd really like to see is a more equal representation of oldschool and modern Lolita done by all the major brands one day. On the whole, Lolita these days is too caught up in trendiness, and undeniably focused too much on prints, but I'm also aware that's how the designers are making money and the fashion is continuing to thrive.

I believe that as Lolita grew with the internet, a lot of the culture was lost. I think Lolita's shift to a visual and light content culture helped the fashion to survive and grow, but it diluted the subculture to a ghost of it's former self.

I'm not sure anyone truly knows what Lolita is anymore. To many people, it's just clothes, but to many others, it's so much more, and regardless of whichever side of that fence a person is on, Lolita is a subculture. Now that the culture has changed into something so different and shallow (I'm sorry I don't have a better word to use), I don't think anybody can say what exactly it is.
