I agree with her, but I don't hold others to my own standard.
When you're darker skinned it really is hard to cosplay to what you look like. I end up feeling like I have to cosplay characters I don't know or care about, random background characters, or nobodies most of the time because I only fit a small subset of a small subset of anime characters. Or I have to stick to more Western sources like comics or films I don't read or watch. I'm willing to do it, but I won't judge anyone who doesn't choose to restrict themselves.

The opinions in this thread are partially why cosplay has been so difficult for me lately. I don't have anyone I want to cosplay that fits my skin tone and it sucks out the enjoyment for me. I'm getting too old to spend 3 months on a costume for a character I don't really care for. Wish I could just cosplay my favorite characters with similar body types but then I berate myself for misrepresenting them.
