Something that's thick where it goes over the shoulders and under the armpit, muffin topping looks absolutely dreadful on anyone, and you have to be a skeleton for it to not happen to some degree regardless of how fat you are otherwise.
For crossplay specifically, I'm impartial to the mostly full body ones, they do the best job of making all the disparate parts of all the padding and corseting come together into one seamless form.
