So I spent today fighting with my new cast-iron 4qt Dutch oven. It required "seasoning", but first I had to bake the damn thing in an oven to melt the hideous wax off the surfaces. That stuff is super tenacious; I ended up having to take steel wool to the stuff after it laughed at the anti-grease dishwashing soap and the Brillo pad. I also managed to set off the fire alarm from the wax smoke because we can't open the damn windows and there's no ventilation. First world has no damn respect for people who might need to bake their ovens in their ovens so that they can be ovens.
