I found at first that I couldn't find anyone actually into anime at these events but recently I've got together with a small group who actually keep up with current shows so I've been lucky with that. I've also found a few people at the /cgl/ meets are also /a/nons. I like to consider myself an /a/non first and a cosplayer/lolita second so I'm glad I've met some people who actually know what shows I'm talking about.

I guess you just have to look out for seasonal show related costumes hidden among the sea of homestuck at MCM and talk to them.
