I have a pretty big friend group. I'm the only male out of it. And they recommended I come to MCM with them a few times. They all told me to just stick with them and don't wander off. I was younger and thought I knew better so I made the mistake of engaging with another person outside my group. Only to be met with autistic blank stares and mumbling. That happened 3 times before I got the message. I just stay with my group and get drunk now. Pretty much gave up on people outside my group after that point. They all said I was an idiot for doing that as no one talks to anyone outside their group. That just seems to be the culture from what I've seen.

It's just a UK thing too. I've been to Japan on holiday a couple of times and took one of my shittier Warhammer cosplays to a con. Everyone there was approaching me and asking for photos. They didn't know what Warhammer was but thought the costume was cool. They even talked after they realized I was conversational in Japanese. I'm not great at it but I could talk. Very friendly people over all. They seemed impressed I made all my costume from scratch. EVA foam, worbla and sewing. I didn't think what I did was even that impressive. People just seemed less autistic overall. Which is saying something considering it's Japan.
