Yeah I'd say my biggest issue with your "don't" vs "do" example is the fact that the flatness of the second one really gives away the fact that it's fake. You want to build up dimension with layers of whatever material you're using, as well as some darker weathering.

The wig is really ruining it for me (is that a natural black or brown?) but your makeup is great. Also for God's sake, please put your headband under your wig if you aren't planning on that already.
