>Cats are cuddly, crocodiles aren't. Besides Alice also had black and white kittens. Lolita isn't just the shape of the dress and slapping on a random print. It partly exists because Japanese women romanticised young European girls and that's still what tons of prints are inspired by.

Something being cuddly or not ieven an argument if you are going by the romanticised Eurpoean idea. Exotic animals have been part of European culture for centuries, going from curiosity cabinets to menageries to public zoos and zoological gardens. Rich families built entire business empires on it, the monarchs of the time outdid each other by building gigantic public zoos and gardens to satisfy the public demand to see exotic animals. People held tropical birds as pets and some even tried to domesticate zebras and lions. So I don't really understand why lolita fashion can't be inspired by it? It's not like the prints have to be tacky Chinese vector art, you can do it in a classic and more grown up style. All in all exotic animals had a huge impact on European culture back then. Even the Alice in Wonderland argument you constantly bring up seems invalid, there were countless other animals featured in it, it's not only about your cute and cuddly cats and rabbits guys..
