1. I think a lot of people who push con content with panels are pissy for years about the inability to get panels going. Lots of the time is eaten up my Japanese language and culture panels like.. "do you want to teach english in Japan" kind of stuff that has nothing to do with anime.

It's more like a college job fair for japanese culture than a fun and engaging con. So yeah, those people get salty. but those are the people who fill your con with content and get people excited.

2. Growing competition from bigger cons, namely Momo and Supercon. Momo being on the same weekend for two straight years now, and about 5 hours away, but in a much larger city with much bigger guests. Momo is going to be more fun for just about anybody. It's also backed by the people that bring you Dragoncon and has a pretty big fashion and video game aspect. Supercon is in Raleigh but a few weeks away and appeals to the older crowd of Marvel comics fan and general pop culture people who just want to throw money away on autographs. AZ has very niche and small name guests.

3. Cosplayers go where the crowd is and if it feels like a lot people are jumping ship, the bigger name cosplayers will go to other cons because cosplay is all about getting attention haha.

AZ is definitely a younger convention despite the Japanese culture stuff. And that's why it gets ignored and feels like a waste of time. The staff refuse to change their core.. maybe because they get grants and things, and people are just bored with AZ.
