I'm sorry to hear that anon. And no, she was only 11, but she got very depressed when my younger brother went to prep school, and stopped eating. We tried force feeding her and giving her meds and all that but after 3 or so days her liver shut down. The first vet we saw said there wasn't an issue and she was just bummed out, but we had another vet come in when her condition worsened and they said she had liver and pancreas failure, and had almost zero chance of surviving. By the time I trained to my parents place to see her she was in an awful state (didn't move at all, never closed her eyes, stayed in the same place all day) so we called the vet back on Monday when they were open to have them come put her down. It really, really sucked, but I'm glad she isn't in pain any more.
