I wouldn't exactly call her embarrassing, but:
>Sometimes have geeky movie/anime/tv-viewing parties at my apartment, put up themed signs on my door so people can find my place easily
>Girl in the apartment complex sees them and gets interested, we eventually talk
>She's in high school (juuuuust over half my age, ow) and she's been into American comics and animation forever but she's recently discovered anime and manga
>I think she's fantastic, I love spending time with her
>But when she cosplays she's verrrrrry much at that weeb stage that many cosplayers go through
>No wig, wrong shoes, "this blue T-shirt is close enough to the character's green tunic", sometimes cat ears or a tail, no makeup, etc
>She doesn't act embarrassing or anything, but she gets a little sad when no one recognizes who she's cosplaying as
>I want to steer her in the "right" direction, but 95% of the time she's having a great time and I don't want to kill her buzz by being too intrusive.
>I haven't figured out how to suggest ways to improve her cosplays without coming off as a know-it-all

Everything I think I'd say would be like… "WELCOME TO THE NO FUN ZONE, THIS IS HOW YOU HAVE TO COSPLAY" and I don't want that. If she's having fun, that's what's important. On the other hand… when I was going through my weeb cosplay stage I really wish someone had told me that wigs, makeup, and the like were REALLY GOOD IDEAS.
