I get that the demographic crossover between people who have done heavy manual labor and users of the cosplay board on 4chan is probably pretty minimal, so getting mad at this would be totally retarded, but the idea of getting tetanus from simply using rusty metal is pretty dumb.

You are only at risk of getting tetanus from rusty metal when it cuts you. Now, I don't know if you're posting on 4chan from a plane of Non-Euclidean geometry, but most of the time, you can only get cut on sharp things. Barbells and weights being typically cylindrical objects are the opposite of sharp. Spreading the idea that if you don't buy brand new weights (most second hand weights are rusty), then you'll get tetanus is stupid.

You know where else tetanus bacteria live? The soil. The world health organisation describes tetanus as "universally present in soil". If touching rusty shit gives you tetanus, then anyone who's ever walked barefoot on dirt should be fucking dead.
