At least for the short term there's the option of going on a hike innawoods and keeping your eyes peeled for a nice branch (if you live in a climate with those sort of trees).
DIY is another option, particularly if you're looking for the standard simple "gnarled wood" wizard staff that doesn't have ornate carvings or glowing magic stones. Using a base of PVC pipe, which is light, inexpensive, and can be cut to whatever length you need at the hardware store, then layering on craft foam/papier-mâché and painting can get a nice organic look with some effort.
