I really love these kinds of photos, and have contemplated asking someone to take some photos of me in lolita in public, but I can only imagine it being super awkward for the one taking the picture, and drawing even more attention than normal.

Alright, I'll do it. If that can make you stop responding to low tier bait for once.

Nayrt but I always love seeing pictures of lolitas in public as long as they look nice in their clothes. They don't need to be perfect model-tier, but I feel like wearing a strange stand out fashion only accentuates whatever imperfections you have. Not saying only 10/10 qt asians can wear the style, but I feel like lolita is just not that flattering usually? The fit is off a lot of the time because dresses only being in one size and such too. But that adds to why it looks a lot worse in an unedited, candid setting as well.

Lolita has been such a huge part of my life! It's been over 6 years since I started in the fashion and my closet has almost 70 main pieces. I never would have thought I'd fall out of love. But I've been struggling with lolita for the past 2 years and over that time I've realized that the fashion is incredibly impractical and difficult to wear on a regular basis with my current lifestyle.

I've been filling my wardrobe with more otome pieces and I'm beginning to wonder if I should get rid of lolita entirely. Keeping up with social media like instagram and tumblr have become a chore and the less I update the more relieved I feel. I only wear it to attend meets now so the only thing I would miss would be my comm.

My boyfriend suggested I put up a spreadsheet with my dresses, their current market value, and how many times I've worn the pieces. It really depresses me how much money I've spent on things I barely touch.... wardrobe is almost at $60k if everything sold. I have a few HG pieces like Elizabeth Bride of Death, Gloria, CTP, Honey Cake, etc. that I've been holding on to because it took months of searching and bidding until they came to me.

I know this is a topic that's always being brought up but any input or advice from other lolitas going through the same thing would be helpful. Did you regret selling your lolita wardrobe in lieu of something else? Is it worth holding onto certain pieces as collector items?

Seeing girls like >>8967093 brings me the same joy that old school did when I first started.

I agree with you guys, but the only way for us to stop the slow inevitable social media death of lolita is to revive it ourselves. So many people seem to feel this way, if we all started making more content again and finding new platforms to discuss lolita then maybe we could bring back some of that feeling again. Especially since facebook sucks and brought too much real life family shit and people's self deprecating posts into my kawaii space. Not everything has to be perfect, polished photoshoots of expensive costume-tier coordinates, if we want to make a difference we need to start talking about whimsy again. Make our version of lolita into what we see of ourselves on the inside.

idk though, I'm just a dusty old romantic who still thinks livejournal is a fun place to ramble about lolita.
