San Diego Comic Con?

It's pretty intense, especially for a first con. Make sure you plan ahead so you don't spend a weekend in lines and steeped in disappointment, although for how stressful it is, it's kind of hard to be disappointed at the end of it all. There's always something to see and generally people are pretty nice.

Just try not to have your heart set on anything unless you're prepared to wait literally hours for it. Hall H panels are worth camping out for depending on how much you love whatever's going on in there.

Fanime is consistently good, and even though it's smaller than AX, I'd hardly consider it a "smaller scale" con especially in terms of AA. Artists at Fanime can do just as well as, if not better than AX because the alley is smaller and traffic distribution is more even. If you hit jackpot with AX and get a prime location, you're good, but of course if you get stuck in assland, you'll just do okay or not well at all.

PMX is one of those tiny local cons that's only worth it if you're super local. I was unlucky and struck out massively this year, but I haven't heard great things about PMX in past years anyway. AA head is an idiot and it's about what you can expect from a super local con.

Does anyone have any wintery or christmassy coords? Need to draw someone for a commission sample

>tfw I was stewing in my seat at the school assembly because everyone around me was crying about this shit and I was just peeved that I wasn't chosen to "die" for a day and miss an entire fuckin day of school for some weird PSA role playing schtick

Also yes considering cosplayers and con peoples' live revolve around these fabricated and controlled environments celebrating fictional realities, you can bet your anonymous ass that they're sheltered as fuck.

More like a pre-con thing but...

If you're looking for roomies, stick to communities you know first. From there, if you branch out into like the con forums or other places where you literally have no idea who you might end up rooming with, be hyper-vigilant.

-Do not room with people who need any of your financial information. If they need to add you to their room, usually they'll need like your name and some contact, but never your credit card number.

-Don't room with people who don't know what they're doing. If they can't give you a straight answer to something like, "how many people will be in the room" or "what are you planning to do on Saturday," avoid them.

-Don't room with people who might have very different sleeping habits as you. If you need to sleep at like 10PM, but they're planning on hosting a party, avoid them, find someone else.

In general, if you're hopping into someone else's room, go with people who already have their shit figured out. You can't prevent every terrible thing from happening, but you can at least avoid getting screwed over by some 15 year old who doesn't know how to book a hotel

E3 is definitely an industry con. To a certain extent, AX kind of is too, but not nearly as much as E3 (or Blizzcon too, I think). I think PAX is also industry? These kinda shows are more for people who work in vidya to compare dicks about stuff that's coming up. It's less about chilling with fans and more about showing off actual products, kinda like a trade show

Nah, I've definitely heard versions of those. Maybe not to me specifically, but I've heard them in passing, especially that last one.

Don't underestimate how utterly fucktarded and rude socially awkward weebs can be (whether intentional or not)

Depends on your output. Chibis generally tend to be fast and easy, so I feel like having a wide range would benefit you, especially because people aren't always buying for the quality of the art.

I think it's more important to have "complete sets," that way fans of that particular fandom are more inclined to buy multiple.

People say spaghetti things, no worries. Even if it happens a lot, I don't think people will hate you on that alone unless what you're saying is full-on incendiary. I also think acknowledging how spaghetti you sound or just apologizing for it helps a lot- that way, others know that you're actually aware of it and are more inclined to see it as a quirk or weird habit than something you're doing for attention or just to be obnoxious.

Nooo join the comm I want more seagull friends

Also keep in mind that the SF Bay area is pretty huge, so meets may vary from region to region. I've only been to meets in the South Bay because they're closest to me and they've been full of generally very chill, lowkey people, many of whom are really well-dressed and nice. I think East Bay might attract a few more crazies because it's East Bay, SF is probably a crapshoot, and North Bay might be a little weird too because they're all neurotic white people. But these are completely unfounded guesses. I could be full of shit.

There might be a learning curve, but once you figure out where cool people are or which area fits you better, it's easier to stick to those meets and those particular people. I'm still new, but I'm kind of figuring out which names- good and bad- to look out for.

Online: Exasperated affection for all the seagulls: salty lolitas, shitty trolls, thirsty anons, most tripfags, etc. etc.

Offline: Like 99% awesome party people who are lowkey, chill, always down for hanging and party times or even just deep good friendship stuff too.

Yeah! I teach high school. I always underestimate the chances of seeing students outside of school since a lot of them don't leave their city/town. This was probably one of those times. It was fine, though. They were definitely my more chill students, and when I saw them at school, one was more surprised by my makeup than my dress

That doesn't seem that crazy to me, though, and everyone has different professional/personal life boundaries.

I honestly would respect and appreciate her opinions so much more if she wasn't so fucking insufferable and bratty about them.

I mean, yes, representation is super important, fat people absolutely deserve to be represented in media, it's fine to draw skinny characters as fat.

But when you end your posts with "lol" or "so funny" it's like... why do I want to even consider the opinions of an actual 12 year old. If this issue is important to you, write in a way that we can see that.

It's probably because it's Halloween, but I'm pretty sure my comm has had a meet/event every weekend this month so far, and with autumn/holiday season around the corner, it's probably gonna be like that until the end of the year. I feel a little spoiled when I say that it's a little overwhelming to have so many things going on, since it seems like there are a fair number of comms out there that are struggling to throw events together.. Like it's nice to be able to pick and choose which meets to go to, so I should just count my blessings.

I've only been to like two meetups, but our recent halloween tea party+Crimson Peak one was great.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I just got an offer to be a vendor/exhibitor there too. On one hand, it's cool that they're being proactive, on the other... I've heard nothing about this anywhere else.

That makes sense too. I guess I saw pansexual as sort of a "catchall" term whereas bisexual, regardless of what your specific binary is, is limited to exactly that- a binary (girl/guy, same sex/different sex, etc.)
