To be fair, I have a thing for the D-listers and I tend to go for the less well-known characters, but...wat. Just wat. Also I shudder to think of the number of times people assumed I was a furry when I cosplayed Squirrel Girl.

I had a blast. I was Atom Eve on Friday and Valkyrie on Saturday. Got to see a whole bunch of friends I don't get to see very often and spent my birthday evening drunk as a skunk in the Hilton bar. Sadly I had to leave early on Sunday so I only went for Friday and Saturday, but this was one of the chillest and most fun cons I've been to in a while.

I take forever to edit and post pictures, but if this thread is still up when I finally get it done, I'll post links to my flickr and a couple of my favorites.

Will a gloss clearcoat look bad over metallic spraypaint? I've heard that it kills the metallic look, but I also don't want my armor to get dinged up super easily.

The short answer? Way too fucking much.

The long answer? Including the cost of cons and travel (not just the costumes), the answer is I have no fucking clue, but still way too fucking much.

Valkyrie armor painted, now all I have to do is sew/glue on my snaps and buckles and style my wig and I'm good to go. I figured that by making it look battle-worn to begin with it'll still look okay when it inevitably gets kicked to shit at the con.

One question, though- I know that metallic spraypaint is really fragile. I have a gloss acrylic clearcoat that I could seal these with, but would that kill the metallic look too much?

I'm going! Wearing Valkyrie on Saturday, but still waffling on what to wear the other two days. I have it down to Squirrel Girl, Atom Eve, and Spider-Girl. Guess I'll take 'em all down and see how I feel the day of.

Valkyrie armor. The sad thing is this is already 23948273 times better than my first go-round. QUALITY.

Wow, if artists like these are getting rejected then I don't feel so bad. I just really wish they had given us a clue of what they were looking for.

I didn't get in either. Hoping to be able to split a table with my friend, but that's up in the air until we hear back. I feel you on the blow to the ego, though, especially since this would have been my 4th year in a row tabling at Fanime.

I think that there would be less fuss with the AA selection if the staff had posted the criteria that they were judging on. Art is so subjective that it would have been really helpful to know what they were specifically looking for.

It would also have been nice to have more heads-up on the fact that they were going to switch to juried. In the future, it might be better for them to do a partial juried, partial first-come to cut down on the complaints of judging bias. Hopefully the selection process will be smoother next year.

Skimpy costumes are fine as long as your important bits are covered. It's a comic con, they tend to be a bit more lenient.

Wondercon used to be my home con and then it moved to LA and made me sad, but it's still one of my favorite cons and I go every year. It has the same sort of panels and merch as SDCC without the batshit insane crowds and panel lines. It's like SDCC without the bullshit.

This year I'm revamping my Valkyrie (Marvel), but I'm not sure what else to rewear. We'll see.

Oh, I know. Part of the reason I haven't started selling yet (in addition to the "not enough inventory" and the "lazy motherfucker" parts) is that I don't have a good camera setup yet. I need to get off my butt and make a lightbox setup so I can get some decent pics. That one was just to show anon some of my books. Thank you though!

Thanks, guys. There's a reason I haven't worn any superhero cosplays in a while, haha. I'm working on my squatz and oatz, but of course that takes time. Hopefully I'll get back into better shape soon.

I borrowed my roommate's camera to take a quick pic of some of my books and she was like "NO WE NEED TO MAKE IT PRETTY." This looks a lot better than what I had in mind, haha.

These are older books, so they're just plain.

Finally got some pics of my Valkyrie cape. Needs ironing like whoa, of course. Also it's a good thing my boob armor will cover my bra, heh.

I make jewelry, hair accessories, and books in addition to the whole cosplay thing. I'm also trying to make it as an artist-with-a-capital-A, so that's an adventure. I keep meaning to set up an online store but I don't have enough inventory at the moment to make it worth the time.

Finally making some progress on Valkyrie- fixed the fucked-up bodysuit and made a cape. I can't find my camera so I'll post a pic later, but it feels good to be working on stuff again.

I tabled at the first Kraken and I was really, really impressed with how well it was organized and how they looked out for the artists- the staff even came around and gave us drinks and asked how we were doing and stuff.

I'm not going to be in the masq, but I'm going to be tabling at this one too so I'm looking forward to that. I just haven't done shit to prepare, haaah...
