Now if you're going to bring croissants into HSG you should share with the rest of the class.
(On a cosplay related note, I like that picture quite a bit. It was probably just a joke shot, but for some reason the double bird brought back great memories of Jade being a bitch and all was good.)

Thanks for the great pictures of Jane! I really like how she has styled her bangs for the photographs. Came just in time too for today, I'm trying to restyle my wig and I just never seem to know where to go with them.

Sorry its not a con story but...

I went to a cosplay meetup for the first time a while back, when I had started getting into Hetalia. I was very shy, as well as my friend, I knew I wasn't nearly as good as the other cosplayers and I felt self conscious. What made matters worse was that we were ice skating as a meetup idea, and neither of us have skated.

So we're both fumbling around on the ice, getting frustrated, feeling like us and our baby's first cosplays weren't fitting in so well... when suddenly we felt like we were being swept away .
A REALLY great Revolutionary America and Revolutionary Britain had taken each of our hands, and was now helping us stay up on the ice and for the first time we were actually really skating. Seriously it was like a scene out of a goddamn anime episode, I practically saw the shoujo sparkles and clouds. Took no effort at all to keep us on our feet. Afterwards they took us to the rest of the group, introduced us, and we bonded that way. I still talk to that England and I don't know if she knows this, but that kind of magical moment's one of the biggest reasons I cosplay now... I sort of hope to bring that sort of feeling to everyone else. So whenever I go to a con I try to help anyone I meet so they don't feel so lonely.

Like I said, not a con related story and its something corny as shit but I don't know. That was lifechanging. I don't know if everyone understands just how much one act means to someone.

Hanyaan please feel better soon, I hope you can get back on track!
We're all rooting for you, okay?
Tell me how the hiatus goes for you!

Also come on man, you did the tutorial 90% of people who actually do HS makeup well use. I think you should give yourself more credit!

Aaaah oh man I really like this! Its hard finding a PS cosplayer, never mind the candy corn vampire. Its probably strange to note this but I like the hair quite a bit. Lots of people half-ass that sort of thing but its styled very nicely to the character.

I think my only criticism off the top of my head is that I wish their eyebrows were more drawn in but I can forgive that kind of thing since it kinda matches the lips nicely.

Thanks you two! I'll keep all those things in mind!

I think of the four I'll try Aradia and Aranea. Mindfang was a possibility I was thinking of, so Aranea goes a little hand-in-hand with that. As for Aradia, her horns would be a nice challenge to try.

Thanks you guys!

Shit, forgot to add that I'm fat. Not saying Curvy as in "polite way to say I'm fat", but I am fat and happen to have a very distinct Cello/Hourglass sort of shape. Big ass boobs, wide ass hips, much smaller waist in comparison.

That changes a lot of stuff wow how did I forget to write that.

Aah sure, I'll bite a bit and say what I'm doing!
I'm planning on Trickster Jane and MS Paint in the somewhat forseeable future. Just need to save my money for something else at the moment.

I'm having trouble thinking of any other cosplays, though. I've been more or less typecasted as Jane and while I love her to death I'd like to try something more difficult than her and Ms. Paint sometime. What are good cosplays girls other than these two? Especially for those with a Cello shaped body type, as pictured on the side here. I have a very round face as well so thats another issue to tackle.

>>6587687
Hanyaan have you thought about maybe breaking into a member of the felt, as strange as that sounds? It'd leave room to be goofy and you wouldn't have to break into any troll lines. If you could find someone to cosplay a midnight crew member or something too, it could stand out.

(Or you know just do something silly and completely unsanctioned by hsg by doing a Jojo Homestuck crossover in which only I would be amused)

>>6587692
I think if you wear his godtier outfit, that would be a good way, or even the Vriska outfit. Honest to god I think you'd be able to stand out while being Troll!John even if you just did his basic outfit in black. So long as you have the symbol, the hairstyle, the glasses I think you're pretty set. I look forward to seeing this though.

Oh man sorry to bother you with this but gesso you say? Is it to help fill all the holes of the styrofoam in? Would you recommend it for the smooth construction styrofoam too? Just because I used plaster for the first time on my first prop and I handled the stuff pretty poorly

>> No.6587450 [View]

>>6587410
Get some construction styrofoam, usually pink or blue, from a hardware store. Cut out a big circle, sand and bevel the edges instead of leaving it as this big weird circle thing, so it's gradually sloping from the edge towards the center up to a certain point you decide. Just make sure its nice and gradual.

Drill a small hole into the bottom of the styrofoam nice circle so that way you can attach the lollypop. You can't use superglue and shit on styrofoam so get a good glue that works for it.

You NEED to coat the styrofoam circle with SOMETHING but that's kind of your choice I guess? You could do Paperclay or something, you could do plaster strips if you're careful!

Nah, I don't. Actually you've all been nothing but nice and polite to me while I've been here while being honest and I seriously appreciate that because I usually agree with you all on what you say.

I'm just that kind of person without the balls to say it myself is more what I meant, since I agreed with anon but felt guilty saying it for some reason. I used the word polite incorrectly in this case, didn't mean to imply hsg was rude. Sorry about that guys!

>> No.6587339 [View]

>>6587327
Looking at it I sort of agree. I feel a bit bad saying it, since I think she could really make a cute Jade, but I wish she had edged it in green and added the symbol. As well it looks like she may be having trouble keeping that dress up from how she's positioned in the picture?

Yes I hope if she's reading this in hsg somehow she's encouraged to go a bit more with this dress! I think she has a lot of potential, and that by adding a bit more effort she can pull this look off rather well. As well I'd probably hand her some Hollywood tape to help keep that dress up.

I'm tempted to say there's more she could do with the wig, but to be honest I really don't know what can be done to a Jade wig.

(sometimes I feel way too polite to be here haha)

Since there is talk in the thread that we would like conversation without drama being caused, how about we discuss our opinions on this:

How do you feel about changing/modifying things in a cosplay that are different from canon (to an extent) to make an outfit more original, or to better suit a person's body type? For example, different styles of red shoes for Terezi, different styles of skirts for girls who wear them, ways to style Jake's wig, etc? Do you prefer hyper accuracy or do you enjoy some leeway and/or creativity? When is it done incorrectly?

As well, what are some cute ideas for costumes that you'd like to see done more often, such as ways to style hair or ways to construct some outfits? Have you seen any little things like this you enjoyed? Share them!

Sorry if this seems broad for a topic or unnecessary, I was trying to think of something to spark discussion.

In return, have what may just be my favorite 3 AM dress.

I feel you on strange phobias, I hope you can find a way to get past yours or find a solution because that sounds positively dreadful!

I guess if we're talking about phobias... I actually have a crippling fear of Google Earth's Satellite mode? As in I start feeling hyper anxious and uncomfortable and try to not look at the screen if it'son it. I mean if it's on a city or even a continent I'm fine, but the moment I see the deep darks of the ocean I start freaking out. It also happens in games that use 3d planet maps and stuff...

No, sadly. I cut a hole in the crotch and kept it in place by tucking it under my boobs. Kinda like those weird corset-vest thingies.

I still think carefully stitching it to the inside-collar parts of a swimsuit/tanktop should work though, sorry I must have read something wrong I'm confusing myself now carry on.

Okay so as a note I am overweight and I used the plus-sized tights and they worked really well. BUT My best advice if you're plus sized is to get one size smaller than the pants size you'd get normally.

I had to keep hitching mine up because of it coooooonstantly. But they work VERY well!

>> No.6581627 [View]

Sorry, don't mean to sound silly or anything but like...
I had made mine out of the full pantyhose/tights, with the bottom part and everything. I only cut a hole in for the head, and a bit of a cut so I could wear it under my bust (I was wearing a tshirt over it so it wasn't noticeable.

What if they took the armsocks, took black thread, cut it like I had done, andsewn it inside on the side close to the collar of the swimsuit? If it's stretched taught by sewing it there, it should cover the shoulders in theory? And they could just adjust the part under their boobs?

And then of course you hear the screeching of the underage fans when you have an 18+ meetup.
"STOP DISCRIMINATING AGAINST US! WHY WON'T YOU INVITE US? YOU'RE SPLITTING THIS FANDOM APART!"

Oh my god absolutely yes. I think the part that annoys me the most, though, was the fact that when I've tried to talk to people about this/ask them not to, online or offline, I always get a sneer and a "I don't care".

I think once I was talking with someone about nudestuck underage, and their answer was something along the lines of "Well in my country legal age of consent is 14 and I'll be okay if I post my stuff. If you get arrested for accidentally stumbling upon it haha on you".

(I remember seeing this in the general I thought you did a really fucking good job btw)

Okay getting off homestuck though, seriously, even if I share a lot of your feelings...

Vocaloid. Holy shit Vocaloid fandom I just can't deal with the levels of weeb in it it makes me cringe. I've always wanted to cosplay from it, but tbh I neither have the body type for it and I don't want to get harassed by little screeching girls.

It actually makes me really sad because its hard seeing any artist's hard work being reduced down to "Kawaii uguu" by its fandom. I feel like this happened to Kuroshitsuji and I do wanna read it but I'm put off by the younger fanbase.

I know those feelings well... I fucking love KH and KH2, but that fandom sometimes...
I'm a little thankful now because it's not like everyone and their mother is doing KH.

For me its Homestuck. I love Homestuck, and some of the fandom is tolerable, but as for batshit, bad cosplayers, weebs, and attention whores theres absolutely no doubt in my mind that there's all those in spades.

I'm kind of waiting for it to be like Kingdom Hearts in my area, where the hype dies down and eventually it becomes more of a "Oh man I remember Homestuck it's great" than a "holy shit why did I choose Homestuck to cosplay 3/4 of this con is Homestuck please stop screaming kids I am so sorry other con-goers I swear I'm not like these guys wait why are you sneering at me I told you I'm not like them"

Despite all this I still cosplay it though. And two of my next planned cosplays are HS so there's no chance of leaving it soon.
