Get a group of friends to go with you or meet people at the con and keep in contact. Sure you'll get the odd weirdo quite a lot but if you've got your group of friends you can shun the annoying ones.

The stalkers and creeps usually go after lonesome females or small groups, my missus used to get it a lot until she shacked up with a larger group.

The missus loves to cos and I can't go around with her as I'm working one of the stalls so she tends to either find people or go around with her friends. I don't know what it is about MCM but it attracts far too many creepers and autists and they always seem to be alone.
