Cosplay progress, sewing w.i.p's, and occasional cosplay photos. It's mostly original stuff, but there is the rare reblog mixed in. The blog name pretty much sums up the content.

I've got a ten inch difference - that's pretty average. As >>6495034 said, it's mostly an illusion. The jacket has pleated side panels and the shorts poof out at the sides which makes my hips look wider.

No, I don't waist train, so I don't know much about it. There was a thread on it a while back if you check the archives you can find more info, i'm sure.

>>6494348
I haven't yet. Mostly because my everyday clothing is boring and casual (old navy t-shirts, gym shorts, leggings, lumpy sweaters etc.) I'm not very stylish so sewing for regular life would be boring. But I do plan on making some fancy blouses and cupcake skirts soon. Aha, thank you.

>>6495078
Huh. Is that's what we are calling bras these days?

I made a mock up for these shorts today! I hadn't made shorts before so I had prepared myself for the worst - but they were surprisingly easy. (I guess it helps that they are poofy and stretchy, so fit isn't an issue)

Tomorrow i'll make them out of navy suiting and hopefully that will go as smoothly as this mock up. I got the sleeves sewn onto the jacket and did a few alterations to make the fit better, but nothing super exciting going on there.

And here is the wig. I'm awful at wigs but I guess this is okay. I still have to fix some things, and maybe add a few wefts. It's pulled up into an actual ponytail in the back, not that you can tell when i'm wearing it since the costume has a giant collar. The color looks weird here, it's most of an ivory/ash/grey blonde color in person.

I'm so excited to make the teapot/headpiece this weekend. Also no, the ponytail isn't supposed to be centered.

And just think, i'm not even done yet! I'm not part of a group. Which is probably why i'm compelled to make it so sparkly and over the top. I have to make up for the fact i'll be alone.

>>6490057
Gah, thank you very much! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished Wizard - it looks awesome so far.

Finished choker, and a shoe WIP. They were originally hot pink suede so they got a big makeover. I still have to add more rhinestones and ribbon onto them, but it's a good start.

That they are. I should have stabilized the silk...but I was out of lightweight interfacing and didn't want to wait until I had more. Thank you!

>> No.6489426 [View]

Since it's a two piece bodice (or it looks to be) it should't be that difficult. Lay the dress flat on the ground and stretch it out a bit until it's flat. Lay tracing paper over it and trace the front in back. Add seam allowances to the sides, shoulders, hem and possibly neckline (it won't fray so it's up to you). Then you have your lining pattern.

Sew together the side seams and shoulder seams. Then turn it inside out (wrong sides together) and hand sew it into your dress. (Tack it down at the sides, neckline, arms, and waistline) It shouldn't be too difficult.

Ugh so much this. I went shopping for winter clothing and chiffon blouses were everywhere. They look wonderful on a hanger but that shit does not work on a human body unless it has something underneath it. Why someone would pay $30~$40 for a shirt that needs a shirt underneath it is beyond me.

I made a big bow! Sewing strips of silk together sucks, so the stripes are kind of uneven, but i'm happy with it nonetheless. I still have to sew gold trim onto the edges and load it with rhinestones. Everything looks better with rhinestones.

If i'm super productive i'll finish the skirt today but that probably isn't going to happen.

It looks like two tone silk taffeta. It's not usually that expensive, about $10-20 a yard.

A few years ago I bought like 20 brushes from elf during a 75% off sale. I had a few problems with two, maybe three of the brushes, which all involved shedding. It's not a normal problem, but it does happen from time to time with cheaper brushes.

You can try washing it a few times and see if that solves the problem (gets rid of the loose hairs) and if that doesn't work it's probably a dud/has glue issues that can't be helped.

For the most part the brushes from them have been fine, especially for the price.

Well the brush will get coated in product, and since it's a liquid it won't just sit on the surface like eyeshadow (and yes they are a pain to clean). The thought is a little funny if you think about doing it with an eyeshadow, blending, or blush brush - but with a foundation brush it kind of works. The bristles are slicker and closer together so it spreads really evenly and doesn't soak into the brush too much.

I'm not really sure how to explain it but the difference between using a brush as apposed to your fingers or a sponge is massive. There are lot's of tutorials out there for it on youtube - just search for it and i'm sure the concept will make more sense.

I think this is kind of an odd contest. Reading through it all it sounds really great at first, free wigs and all that jazz.

But when it comes down to it the people good enough to enter could probably take commissions and spend that time making actual cash well still gaining the experience of working on a wig. Sure in this case they get to keep a wig, but assuming it's styled in an extravagant unremovable style you are kind of stuck with a useless wig. Unless you happen to want to cosplay the character it aligns with or can sell it.

If you are good enough, through styling 10 wigs for commissions you could easily make $1000/way more then the prize. I guess you achieve popularity through arda which is nice, but it seems like a contest that would eat up a lot of time without having a major benefit.

But that's just my opinion. I'm no good with wigs so I probably shouldn't be allowed to comment.

Did you try applying it with a brush? I've got a lot of redness and some acne scarring which it covers perfectly, but I have to apply it with a foundation brush in layers to get good coverage. I find with the texture it's really difficult to apply evenly with fingers or a sponge.

When it comes down to it everyone's skin is different, that's why there are so many BB cream and foundation options. It's also why I try not to get my hopes up about makeup related items until after i've tried them.

Personally, Missha M perfect cover is my favorite and the only one with a color and coverage that really works for me.

I cosplay characters because I like them too. You don't need to cosplay from something popular to have a good time at a convention, especially if the design is neat.

>>6474136
Oyari Ashito? Yeah his work is all sorts of wonderful.

>>6473952
You have good taste! Unfortunately I can't see that costume ever happening. I would only do it if I made it significantly less revealing but that would be a silly thing to do considering the character.

All my dream costumes (even the really challenging ones) are ones I am confident I can cosplay at some point in the future, even if it takes me a long time to build the skills.

Except for this one, which is never ever going to happen. I love how tacky and ridiculous this design is but I would never wear that little to a con. Not to mention all dat impossible print work

I might as well wear a pile of ruffles all weekend.

It's going to be my first Katsucon but i'm really excited. I just hope I can get everything done on time - there are still a few months left but i'm a slow sewer and have a lot to make. If I run out of time I'll drop the Chii costume, but all the others are in progress and i'm 100% they will be making appearances.

I haven't decided what days which costumes are going to be worn but that will get figured out later. I do know i'm going to wear a mountie uniform on Thursday just because.

A Bodyshaper will smooth out your figure and perhaps take an inch off your waist but it won't magically give you curves. It's effectively a tight fitted thick spandex leotard with plastic boning in it so there isn't much structure or support there.

If you want curves look into getting an under bust steel boned corset, it'll make your waist look smaller to give the illusion of larger hips. Then buy a bra in a larger size and stuff it with something. It can be stuffed with batting, cutlets, rice filled balloons, or a bunch of other things. There are lot's of tutorials out there and they all suggest different things.

Then you will need one or two leotards to cover the seams of the bra and corset busk so they won't show.

Honestly a bodysuit will probably look better on a slim figure then a really curvy one (as long as you are a decent weight) so I wouldn't bother or worry too much.

Technically having a store bought costume arrive (or curling a wig) IS progress. It's getting them one step closer to completing a cosplay which means they've made progress on it. It might not be fascinating progress and they might not have put a lot of effort into but it is progress for them nonetheless and they have a right to share it.

I do agree with you on the asking for help thing, especially when there is a help thread on the front page.

>> No.6466038 [View]

I don't think you can get rid of it without surgery, but you could attempt to contour across your jaw bone (blended down your neck) to fake more definition and distract from the problem. There are contouring guides out there for it i'm sure.

Also play around with posing to find something flattering! You can fake a lot in photos if you know how to pose in a flattering manor. This may require tilting your head up, or at a slightly strange angle, but it might save the way you look in hall shots.

There is a difference between being skinny and a hambeast. Sometimes genetics stink.
