Lol, if you think prison is "treatment", you are very much mistaken. Recovering addicts who are serious about their recovery do not put themselves in those situations because of the high risk of relapsing. If you ain't that serious about recovery, I'm sure the idea of bartending, or in this case, DJing at an event where minor, possibly under the influence kids in scantily clad outfits, seems like a good idea.

Want to avoid getting in trouble? Don't go to places where trouble might find you. Simple as that. And if these people would think about that instead of themselves, they wouldn't have made the offer to the dude in the first place. Unnecessary risk.

I don't know, if it were me, I wouldn't put a known sex offender who was convicted of a crime against minor children to DJ at an event where children are at. Because let's just be real for a second, these raves have minor children in there. And say what you will, even if they say yes, they are still children who cannot consent, much less under the influence of a substance.

It's unnecessary and a huge risk for the convention to allow someone like that to be on staff. It can be avoided if they just didn't hire him. If he happen to go to the convention as an attendee and raped someone, that's a whole different situation. But if they knew and still allowed him on board? Man... that's pretty ballsy of them, that would def be a risk I would not want to take.

they dun goof'd then. If you know about it and still hire him knowing he's a sex offender, well.. that's on them.

Assessments for risk level is completed for sex offender registration prior to release from prison. Felony class is not the same as sex offender risk.

Yes, it's a felony. You need to notify both states of your move and it needs to be approved before you can do it. Level 1 still won't show up in Washington's sex offender registry though.

I agree, believe me, I know the stats. But it makes things harder for those looking up information on offenders when it's not readily accessible through state databases.

I'm not denying he did what he did. It's clear he spent 6 years from 2006 - 2012. I'm just saying, that prior to your release, if the authorities assess that you are a level 1 risk, your name isn't going into the sex offenders registry. I highly DOUBT this dude went to Akicon and said "Hi, I'm Leslie Shotwell, and I'm a sex offender in AZ" when he doesn't technically have to as a level 1. If he were level 2 or 3, I'd imagine he would be required to disclose this information.

Though all of this could have been avoided if conventions do their homework and background check everyone before hiring/volunteer.

I'd like to know how they do that, it's a huge convention so I'd imagine that's a big undertaking. I think it would be great to have this at least for staff purposes, but I suppose it depends on state laws about background checks and release of information without direct consent.

I looked here: http://www.azdps.gov/Services/Sex_Offender/

and typed his last night for the offender search and couldn't find him at all. It's easy to find him on mugshots.com, that's a given, but on the sex offenders registry, he's not popping up for me.

>> No.7220889 [View]

I wonder if Akicon actually knew to look this dude up as being a sex offender. According to AZ law, the only people in the sex offenders website are level 2 and 3 for risk, meaning intermediate or high. I just tried to look this dude up on the AZ sex offenders and his last name - Shotwell - didn't pop up. What this means, right before his release, the authorities might've determined his risk level to be low, so maybe that's why he's not in the system.

Community notification definitely happened, but because he's probably a level 1 offender, it's on a need to know basis with the local law enforcement. According to azcourts.gov:

Level One: The local law enforcement agency that is responsible for notification
shall maintain information about the offender and may disseminate the
information to other law enforcement agencies and may give notification to the
people with whom the offender resides. If a level one offender fails to register or
reregister and a warrant is issued, before the issuance of the warrant the law
enforcement agency that requested the warrant may assemble, print and distribute
appropriate flyers of the offender.

I just think it's a little unrealistic to think all conventions are running background checks on their staff. Much less if the offender doesn't disclose that information. Would it be prudent for all conventions to to background checks on staff? Uh, yea, especially if there are kids around, but I just think its unrealistic unless you have a set group of people doing it, and even to an extent, how much information is available to the public as well without violating a person's right to privacy.

The changing face of cosplay. It's bizarre and it makes me feel REALLY old.

I just wanna know who the hell all of these people are? Like, I go on FB and I see the most random ass people with tens of thousands of likes and I haven't the slightest clue who they are.

Take for example, OP, does she have some well-known costume/picture that I'm just not putting her name to her picture?

Also, remember when there was no facebook and the only way you were deemed "popular" was having thousands of people view your pictures on cosplay.com and having more than 10 comments? Man, it was like you were THE SHIT when you had that many views.

Makeup, makeup, makeup. From my experience in dealing with my husband, he highly recommends using heavy coverage makeup, theatrical grade to ensure full coverage of any facial hair.

We just went and bought some Mehron stick foundation. It goes on heavy. Also make sure you set it with setting powder because if you don't, you'll get creases in your makeup. Don't be afraid to contour either (thus my request for contouring tutorials).

But really, it all depends how fast you grow facial hair. My husband has Middle Eastern blood so he gets his 5 o' clock by noon. If you have baby soft skin and no facial hair, regular makeup will work just fine.
