I'm a near-complete beginner to con culture and the "scene" due to zero exposure to it until recently and I have too many questions swimming around in my head that I need to ask. I've only been to a couple of small ones in my mostly-desolate area and I want to step up to traveling to bigger ones but I'm overwhelmed. Please bear with me.
>Do a majority of congoers cosplay? I know it's common, but is it seen as a faux pas to not cosplay?
>Likewise, is it seen as a faux pas to wear the same cosplay more than once in a multi-day event, or to not wear it some days?
>I've read a lot on this board about "after hours" events and parties that aren't scheduled by the con staff. Do you have to get invited to things like that, or how do people find out about them?
>Do cons that don't have a stated sub-demographic (ones that use terms like "fandom" or "pop culture" instead of specifically "fantasy" or "otaku" or something) tend to accept all demographics? Would you be looked at weird for going to something more "western" like SDCC in an anime cosplay, or would you expect to see a lot of them?
>Why do some huge cons like Colossal and Dragon seem to place such significance on getting a hotel room onsite as opposed to just being nearby? Surely not just traffic, right?
>What's a "gull"?
>How do you not get sick every time you go to one?
>How do you keep track of scheduling for multiple cons across multiple years? Do you get notified about them? When is "con season"?
>If you're partying, how do you deal with inevitable hangovers or crashes?
And some more personal questions
>If you cosplay, what's normally your budget? Both in terms of time and money.
>How do you make friends at a con if you're not going with a group?
>How many cons do you go to yearly or on a recurring basis? There are a fuckton I want to see but I'm not sure if my expectations are unreasonable.
Thank you for your time.

If you really like LGBT panels and Cosplay meetups this might be your thing. If you like panels about literally anything else you won't find it here. The 21+ events were pretty fun and the cash bar wasn't too bad. The dance is pretty good for a con of it's size. I had a decent time all things considered.

They got the nickname because they were developed for people with autism, but these things are quite handy even if you don't have autism. Especially for cosplayers.

Green - Feel Free to approach me and start a conversation
Yellow - Don't approach me unless I already know you
Red - Don't approach me, I'm busy

Just hanging in the hall and want people to approach you for pictures? Flip it to green. On your way to a panel/event and don't want to get stopped? Flip it to yellow. Sitting down to eat and don't want to be bothered? Flip it to red.

That becomes a bit of a gray area, but the general rule of thumb is if they know your name, it's probably safe to talk to them. Im looking to do a few jackets for my group cosplay.
We're going to do off duty Zaku pilots for an upcoming anime convention and we all agreed to do a custom version of the jacket below, but the issue is none of us really know what type of jacket it is (or what type it would be called) so we can order them. One of my friends said Parka, the other said it kinda looks like a Field jacket.

Any help or ideas on what type these jackets fall under would be appreciated. I *know* there is an offical name for this type of oversized jacket, I just need a point in the right direction

The first Momocon I went to was about as busy as Katsucon Thursday was, which is why I usually came on Weds. it’s dead Weds but when you wake up you actually see cosplayers and people pop in for thurs. Friday from last years memory is pretty bumping.

Been spending the past few days on pepakura and attempting to make a Gotchard helmet. I’m going to be fine but I need to size up the damn thing since I forgot to account for puzzle mat thickness, and the pattern is scaled for 5mm thickness. I think I’ll be fine for Momocon, kind of pumped for it.

Yup, It was absolutely the worst con/event I've been to. Not exaggerating, it was that bad.

Found a post after gooling that explains what went down here.

I would not be surprised if some class action lawsuit occurred because of it. They completely ripped people off on Saturday, especially to those who had a purchased photo OP.

the same queueing around the building for hours on end shit happened at galaxycon austin last year, but i was willing to give them grace since it was their first year in texas. but seeing this makes me think it's a larger management issue and they're just leaving their staff in the dark. i'm so tired of corpo sellout cons.

It was totally unsafe and it seems they did not learn from their lesson last year as it was 10x worse this year. They over sold tickets for maximum profit, even prioritizing it over safety. Fuck these guys. I can't believe they allow these people to manage such events.
