I've had a lot of time to get things fixed up since the whole employment issue, but between commissions and family stuff, I'm only getting around to my projects.

Firstly, I just finished sourcing and replacing the parts for my partners 1906 singer Sphinx sewing machine. He does a lot of historic and egl commission work, and doesn't trust his modern machine with silk. It's been a real project, but we finally not only got the parts replaced, but got extras now!

having gone through my hoard of fabric, I've decided that I need to make it two more 1780s men's suits. Purple wool, and red wool. Hoping to have at least one of them finished up before a meat / tea party in october.

Finally, I'm working on a wedding gift for some of our friends. Going through my mounds and mounds of linen scrap, and cutting out patches to make them a rainbow quilt. I still have 12- 14 other colors to measure and cut, but I'm hoping some of my friends have more colored scrap, of which I can use to make a better gradient.

Can be great fun. typically very easy to get into, and generally accessible. Most likely to attract people with an oddly inflated sense of skill, and munchkins who cheese rules.

It's time to build a new shield, my dude. Yours is heavier than my re-enacting shields, my buhurt shields, my SCA Shields and my LARP shield.

>>10154802
Wouldn't pass in US larps either.

Paint or at least glue sealant. A layer of canvas or leather glued down is even better.

Grip depends on shield style, size, personal preference and fighting system.

That said, you make it sound like it doesn't matter, because if you think a layer of canvas add too much weight, you need to reprioritize.

>>10153714
It's standard practice in most fencing system around the world. It's about controlling the range, meter, and blade orientation when in close.

Tell me more about the system? Setting/overview/basic mechanics?

Like most sharp head wounds, I didn't even feel it. The headache is a cunt though.

Sup guys! Finally got to cross scar dueling off my bucket list!

Got my buddy in the chin, but I don't wanna post his face here. I'll post more when I edit out faces in the duel pictures.

What have you been up to?

Thats why I hate 90% of fantasy crap.

>these guys look great but they look like an average man with a weapon
>I'm looking for people who look like actual master swordsmen.

But that is exactly what a "master swordsman" is. Just a guy who's really good at fencing. There isn't exactly a symbol or uniform.

>-Either fantasy,
>-More details in the kit/outfit, I think it's what makes kits look better etc.
Like what? I know I can't be the only person who's at a loss here.

>oriental-esque
An Asian master fencer would still just look like a swordsman... Just in the clothes of their culture.

I can certainly dump 16th/17thC though.

>It's like the abstractions that are put into place in Olympic fencing compared to historical fencing. same basic premise, but the rules put in place are done purely out of sport.

which, just like larp rulesets, all sports and martial arts have to have abstraction in order to maintain practicality. All we can do is minimize and mitigate such abstractions.

You also have to understand that you are looking at both medieval images drawn second hand by someone who doesn't have an exact knowledge of fencing, and highly ritualized Japanese sport.

The point is, the body mechanics are generally the same, and furthermore Japanese swordsmanship and swords is shit anyways. Even the Japanese agree with me on that: before the modern fetishization of the cult of the sword in Japan, calling a Japanese warrior a good fencer was an insult to their skills as a horseback archer.

You're trying to make something designed to be worn in a particular fashion work in a way they are not designed for. The guy in your pic dressed as Zero is using costume pieces made to fit, rather than trying to tard-rig fitted pieces.

start from scratch, basically.

>>10128142
Long story short, in the end, viable fighting styles end up being comparable due to the simple fact that the mechanical actions of the human body can only do so much (pic related). I highly suggest you go on to youtube and see if you can find the interview/documentary on the making of witcher 3, where they use a professional HEMA instructor/Dancer to develop the animotion captures for Geralt, and the balance between functional realism and fantasy. There is a reason that you don't see that much twirly BS in real combat.

This also said, people who don't know how to dance or fight trying to do either will always be cringe.
