I'm planning on just leveraging SWE income with a combination of retirement funds, index funds, and a little crypto. I have two possible plans for tolerating wagie life while saving a lot:
>A. get into FANG/unicorn companies and salarymax in that circle until my early 30s if I like it, use it to jump start my investments for retirement and find a fun job that just has me breaking even after that
>B. find high paying but not insane software job that's tolerable, and gives me a lot of freedom (ie. remote/WFH) as long as I get my shit done,
Trying for A because the salaries for senior devs can easily exceed 300k TC with competing offers and I'd be set if I found a tolerable team (ie. not amazon/facebook). Right now my problem is lining up interviews, last year I had a google onsite that I wasn't really sure how to prepare for and did ok on so I definitely feel like I've got a chance. This year I've now done over 100 questions on leetcode but I'm still not sure if that's enough. I feel pretty comfortable with most of them but there are still many that stump me especially on the hard rating. I've also only been able to get an interview with google for later this year so it makes the amount of studying a lot more intimidating than being able to have multiple interviews and thus multiple chances to get a set of questions with familiar concepts. Not many companies seem to have openings for 1-2 years experience in my target location (NYC) compared to sv/seattle, all either new grad or 3-4 years.
