i have a 60 year old coworker too, hes a boomer from the USSR. he's always joking around and asking me shit like that too. its nothing personal. as i understand it, they're just from a different era when life was fun - when you could shoot the shit with your coworkers and mates. it was back in the good ol' days before everyone had autism and social anxiety, before niggers and arabs, before job scarcity, before lack of social welfare, etc. They say humans are a product of our times. I think that speaks volumes about our generation compared to the olden days people. Okay as an "account manager" (shitty do-nothing job that pays well) let me explain to you why you will never get one of these jobs. Its because the listings that you are looking for on Monster and LinkedIn are jobs that HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE have access to. The easier it is to find the listing/ad the more people are applying to it. And bottom line is, you will never get a job that 1,300 people are applying for, even if you have a fucking phD in petroleum sculpture crafting or whatever the fuck.

The solution? You need to find jobs that aren't even listed yet. How? You need to know people, simple as that. You need that one friend who is going to tell you, "hey we just lost an accountant and we haven't even begun looking for one, I'm close with my boss, let me set you up". Every job I've ever had was through word-of-mouth and despite being an utter retard with absolutely no real world skills I'm making $100k kek. If you don't have any friends or family who can set you up with a job you're always going to be playing second fiddle and getting picked last for dodgeball. Remember when your professors told you to network? Yeah, thats what they meant.

Economics Bachelor here

It's a shit degree, graduated 2-3 years ago and got LAUGHED out of every job interview in the finance/business field. You have literally 2 options - get a masters degree (NOT IN ECONOMICS) or settle for something lesser that involves similar problem solving skills. I went for the latter route and am making 70k after 3 years doing logistics & account managing. Yes I know that is shit pay relatively speaking as a finance major would be making 30% more than that in 1/3 the time, but mind you I didn't even need a college degree for this job. The lesson here? If you are going for an econ bachelors its the same as not having any degree at all, anything above Macro/Micro 101 and rudimentary theory its useless meme pop-science for the most part.
