Sergey registered smartcontract.com before Satoshi published his bitcoin paper.
There was a ChainLink Crypto Fund filing on Jan 26th this year for $2.25MM.
Sergey came in contact with Ari last month on Twitter while talking about oracles/smart contracts. Sergey called him, Ari subsequently followed him.
Ari Paul is also involved in a fund ($250MM goal) with Marc Andreessen and now hinted at Chainlink.
ENG devs said the Chainlink whitepaper is one of the most professional they saw.
Also Chainlink has a forerunner advantage, partnered with SWIFT, probably Docusign soon too.
We're in a bear market and Chainlink is not losing any value, even if everything else tanks.
Assblaster (btw start posting again, I know you lurk) gave us all the information on oracles and Chainlink you'd actually need to see it's going to happen.
Every major investor, and even Sergey, is trying to keep LINK as low-key as possible. There's no serious hype about it except here.

Yes, and while it might seem intense, I'm not afraid. They're fucking dinosaurs; they're not going to keep up with something that's pushing the boundaries as a decentralized oracle network. But we may need to step it up as a community, and start getting all the best devs we can in our networks to take a look at it (as is already happening, like you've been tentatively pointing out in previous threads)
I'm confident LINK will establish itself a strong monopoly, even if it's in a small market first. It just needs to get enough of a foothold so it can grow into adjacent markets, and Sergey has talked about this: start with data-driven financial contracts like in derivatives, move toward insurance in due course, and then eventually trade finance.
