Like others said, get yourself on a budget, it's that simple, but not exactly easy as it requires discipline. ALDI can help, I hear it's cheap, I haven't gone yet cause there isn't one close yet. But I love them deals, pic related.

Make an autistic spreadsheet of prices of food, you'll eventually learn what a good deal looks like. Took my wife a while to learn when things are cheap and when they aren't. Go to /ck/ and learn to cook with different items. It can help to cook one big meal and survive off that for a week or so.

Anyone can do it. My latest budget is now $500 per month on groceries, I allocate $100 every Tuesday when the circular ads are about to reset. With the help of a small side freezer I can splurge on deals on meat and seafood, and also buy toiletries and occasionally eat out using this Grocery budget.

learn to cook? i'll break down a few basic, good meals for you.

>white rice, $2
>stew beef, $6
>potatoes, $4
>generic stew seasoning, $1

that should get you a pound of beef, 2 pounds of poatoes, and 1 pound of dry rice. that's 2 days worth of food easily, for <$7/day. this goes down to <$5/day if you buy in bulk and don't waste.

>raw sausage, $6
>black beans/rice box, $3

massive 1 day meal for $9, can be stretched to two days if you add some extra rice in.

>ground beef, $6
>taco seasoning, $2
>tortillas, $1

<$5/day again. buy a block of generic chedder cheese and shave it on the tacos, should last for 10+ meals.

obviously follow recipes but cooking is absurdly easy and very cheap. i'm currently eating a beef stew i made with $15 of meat, $5 of potatoes, $3 of carrots, $3 of onions, and $4 of seasoning. i'm not even eating it over rice because even like this it will feed me for 3 days and $10/day is my target food budget. also drink water and whole milk.

how long have you been homeless for? are you trying to get back into your old life or have you accepted being homeless? also if you just want to get the most calories maybe try changing candies to peanut butter (with the least salt possible, since idk how easy it is to get water in your country/area). very calory dense and probably cheaper than buying candy bars or something

Dry beans and lentils at the store
Dry rice
Pasta

Pick a legume, rice or pasta each night then purchase 2 or 3 fresh vegetables per night to prepare a balanced healthy meal, it's worth keeping a stock of some basic spices so you can make it tasty af, when you have extra money you can buy meat for extra protein but unless you're lifting the beans and lentils are plenty

Also oats, grits, and bananas for breakfast, and if you want something sweet to drink, brew fresh ice tea instead of buying soda

Buy things that can be used across different dishes.
Shrimp and chicken for quesadillas can also be used in fried rice or stir frys.
Pasta is easy and fun to make, if you can find a pasta machine at a garage sale it might just become your new favorite gizmo. I love my hand crank pasta machine, it just feels so wholesome, and you can make huge batches of ravioli or pasta with just a couple eggs and a few cups of flour. A single batch of dough will usually get me 180+ raviolis. They freeze really well and last a long time and can be boiled quickly giving you a quality, convenient and affordable meal.
I don't do this since freezer space is an issue, but you can keep the carcass of routisserie chickens, or beef and pork bones to boil for stock.
