I've made plenty of money buying coins that start pumping as they are launching on a new exchange...then I dump...talking like max 3-5 min holds, though.
If you're swing trading or holding, still not always a great idea to buy on the way down...look at LINK, WTC, SIA, etc...buying the dip can lower your cost basis, but will often just result in magnifying your losses.
