I have a simple question about resume's. When making one, is it best to not even bother with having an objective? Should I just put that portion in my cover letter and free up more space on my resume to talk about my experience?

Your entire resume is going to get roughly 30 seconds of attention. Dont put anything in there that does not "sell" you

The days of Objectives, references, and volunteer sections are long gone. In all reality I read the description for the last job you had, make a mental note of how many jobs you have had in the last 5 years, and then skip to your education.

No - there's no reason to put an objective on it. If someone is looking at your resume, they know you want a new job.

I only look for things that seem interesting, difficult or exaggerated on resumes.
