I have a question, how do you manage your position sizes in mex vs. how much leverage you use?

Looks like I get the same returns from using half as much position size but twice the leverage. Makes sense but if my strategy is to keep tight stops, which would be a better idea - increasing position size overall, or raising leverage?

As a rule, risk 1% of your stack as margin with with 10x-25x (I use 15x personally) and adjust from there based on kelly and your own W/L % using your system.

I wouldn't risk my entire stack or anything close to it on one trade, even if you're setting stop losses. Market stops can ruin your risk/reward and limit stops have the risk of not executing at all. Also, look up risk of ruin and Kelly criterion for optimal leverage formulas, there's a good article on Earnest Chan's (a quant trader) blog. Most people underestimate the amount of starting capital they need to make significant money day trading, even in a volatile market like Crypto.

>> No.9854554

you know why you retards get liquidated? its because you decide its a good idea to short AFTER it goes down, or long after it goes up.
You do realize thats way riskier due to having a worse entry price? thats how you end up shorting the bottom.

There's been massive support around 5900-6400 the last two times. Likely reason is because of that being close to the break-even point for miners in mid-cost Chinese regions is around $6500, give or take. It costs $5900 at $0.13/kwh just to produce 1 bitcoin right now, not factoring in paying off the cost of hardware, cooling, real estate, personnel, etc.

So you use 1% of your entire stack for each trade? Or you set 1% as a stop loss of the amount you bet?
How do you know when to take profit though?

Not him, but since this is basic risk management I can answer for him:
He doesn't just use 1% of his stack, he only risks 1%. Meaning that if you have $1000 capital you could even trade with the whole $1000, e.g. buy $1000 worth of BTC, but with a stop loss at the point at which you lose 1% of your capital, hence $10.

There are different profit taking strategies depending on your system and success rate. I recommend no less than 1.5R. Meaning that you don't take profits before you gain at least 1.5% / your risk times 1.5.

Thanks for the reply mate. So if his stop-loss kicked in, how would this affect his bet the next trade, ie. how would it affect the Kelly Criterion? Would his win/loss decrease?

>> No.9855682

>>9855411
no, I've only used a VPN to register my account.

But I login at home and work (which uses a VPN) so from a sysadmin perspective, it would look like someone just trading with US-based VPNs
I have never heard of anyone having withdrawal issues with BitMex so i am nervous.
I have only heard of people having issues when they need to reset their 2FA as their procedure is "prove identity and we will reset it"

>> No.9855756

>>9855682
I mean bitmex certainly wants your business. I assume they are well aware that US citizens are trading on their platform, they just need to cover their own ass by "blocking" US IPs, but if you have a VPN probably should use it.
