As soon as you can start actively making money running a node and see what data is being requested and set up adapters and buy access to apis people will care. Req's main net meant very little to anyone who doesn't have a business that can use it, whereas anyone start setting up a chainlink node on the main net.

Running a node is going to be extremely profitable. Super profitable. Comparable to free money. Most tokens will be locked up in nodes. The 150,000,000 that will still be circulation will be in the highest demand ever seen in economics. The market cap could never change and the tokens will still be $1k because of the nodes.

not at all considering 1. Sergey himself said the other major problem they're solving in addition to working oracles is off-chain payments in fiat currencies (since it will be some time before significant amount of commerce is carried out via crypto), so the price of ethereum is literally irrelevant considering chainlink will primarily be feeding data into contracts that deal with fiat currencies and just write to public or private blockchains.

And 2. Chainlink is blockchain agnostic so it won't just be writing to the ethereum blockchain but rather literally any other blockchain so again, the price of ether itself is also irrelevant since chainlink's modular architecture means it could find use on any other blockchain.

Of course, it's a very high number, so it's unlikely on that front, but there's no inherent reason or good argument for why links price is in any way tied to the price of ether.

This isn't really an issue. Oracles can provide a "DNS" like service of sorts and relay you the valid public key of the API you're trying to contact, and then you send your request with your public key (encrypted with the APIs public key, so only they can decrypt it), it's essentially how https works.

That doesn't mean that somebody can't have their friends spin one up for them, but it would limit that.
