Eurofag here, my degree was free*. 0 debt. Also, choosing major carefully will have an effect as how much indoctrination in contrast to actually learning useful stuff you will receive. STEM, econ pretty safe - or at least used to be. Also, I believe it's worse in (some of) the u.s. campuses, but eventually sjwism may invade our universities as well. So far, no signs of trigger warnings or safe spaces.
One thing rarely mentioned is the usefulness of institutions of higher learning for networking, social capital is important.
