I'm close to having $500k in assets. I'm a EU citizen and 28 years old. How do I retire? I can't work for another 40 years I will go insane.

Invest 150K $ in MAN.
Buy a house in a big city with 250K$ and rent it out.
Keep 100K$ in your bank account to live from the next 5-6 years.

I’m in the same mindset as you OP got $200k and once I hit $600k I’ll withdraw 100k to pay off my mortgage and probably work part time. It’ll be comfier than having to work 12hour shifts now.

Eastern regions of Poland, Hungary, or Slovakia. Low cost of living, but still within the EU. Find a town with a population of 30-50k. Real estate there should be very cheap. Get rid of your car, everything will be within walking distance. Health insurance will be extremely cheap. Stay single. Always cook your own food. Reduce meat consumption to once a week. Embrace frugality.

I own a decently sized (79 sqm) flat worth about 45k eur. I have no debt. When I was unemployed for 6 months recently, my total expenses were under 400 eur a month. My portfolio is not large enough to support that yet, but yours is.

Don't think they'll be enough. How much do you spend a month? Figure that out and find out how much money you need for the year then multiply by 25. That's how much money you need at least.

inb4 Bitfinex goes the way of Mt. Gox and you lose your 500k

admittedly, the probability of that happening is small, but it is very well there and losing all that money is a big deal.
